Ronda

Ronda is a small city in the northwest side of the province of Malaga (Andulacia) in Spain. The high mountains surrounding the city impart a kind of magic to its atmosphere. The fourth longest river of Spain, Rio Guadalquivir runs through the middle of the city dividing it in two and creating the beautiful El Tajo canyon on which the city is perched. Ronda is one of the oldest cities of Spain, having an origin in the Neolithic age and even has cave paintings belonging to the Paleolithic age. The existence of human life in the present city of Ronda can be traced to the megalithic necropolis Dolmen of El Choppo. The present city was founded by Celtic rulers, but the subsequent Roman and Moorish rulers have left their prominent impressions on the culture and architecture of the region. The Romans brought several features of Roman civil life along with them, like the theater. Ronda emerged to a position of importance during the rule of the Nazari Dynasty of Granada. The coming of the Catholics brought about a sea change in the economy, art and culture of Ronda, which is persistent till date. The gastronomy of Ronda is famous for its variety; each delicacy carries with it a distinct flavor of a particular region, a particular era gone by. The wine and wine cellars at Ronda are no less famous.
