Balearic Islands



The Balearic Islands are an archipelago located in the western part of Mediterranean Sea. The place is very near to the eastern coast of the Iberian ground. They build an independent community and a state of Spain the capital city of the province is Palma de Mallorca. The official languages used in the Balearic Islands region are Spanish and Catalan. There are various myths related with the originations of the two old Greek and Latin names for the Balearic islands. These two names of Balearic Islands are Baleares and Gymnasiae.

There is short history on the earlier dwellers of the Balearic Islands. The story, conserved by Lycophron, the story unfolds that some shipwrecked Boeotians were cast on the islands was invented the island. There is also a custom that the Balearic Islands were settled from Rhodes after the war of Trojan.

The Balearic Islands has a combined population; there are several strange stories are circulated related to this. In some stories, it is told that those people moved there were completely unclothed; it is assumed that the name of the islands came from here. The Phoenicians dressed them with broad-lined tunics. According to other stories they were completely unclothed only in the heat of summer. Other fables say that the people lived in empty rocks and in unreal caves, that they were unusual for their love towards women would present three or four men in return of one woman, that they consumed neither gold nor silver coin, and prevented the import of the valuable metals. For that reason the people who served as soldiers of fortune took their pay in exchange of wine and women instead of money.

The Balearic Islands are situated in the Mediterranean east coast of main ground of Spain. The three main islands of Balearic Islands are Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca. Besides these three, there are also two little as well as unspoiled islands of Formentera located to the southern part of Ibiza and Cabrera placed to the southern coast of Mallorca. These islands can be a favorite holiday destination for the extremely rich as well as famous tourists from round the world. Each Island has a diverse landscape and distinct features between each other. The Balearic Islands offers some extraordinary thing to everyone.
