Granada is the city in southeastern Spain. It is situated in the independent part of Andalusia of Spain. Granada is located at the base of the mountains named Sierra Nevada. The place is the meeting place of two rivers known as Darro and Genil. The place is placed at a height of 738 meters from the sea level. The total population of the Granada was 236,982 and the population of the city area was calculated to be 472,638 by the census of 2005. Among all almost 3.3% of the people did not have citizenship of Spain as the major number of people are coming from South America.
Granada was first established by aboriginal tribes in the prehistoric period, and was acknowledged by the name of Ilbyr. In the time of making Roman colony in southern Spain, Romans established their own city in Granada and named it Illibris. In the 8th century, the Arabs were occupying the peninsula gave it the present name of Granada. According to history, Granada was the last Muslim which was fallen in 1492, at the hands of Ferdinand of Aragon and his wife Queen Isabel of Castile.
In Granada one can see the Alhambra which is a Moorish citadel (a stronghold into which people could go for shelter during a battle) and palace. It is one of the most famous attractions of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian historical law that makes Granada a most attractive and ultimate tourist destination among all the culturally developed tourist places in Spain. Albaicin is the part of the city Granada. In this place one can see some fine instances of Moorish and Morisco structures with the Almohad urbanism.
Granada is also widely known inside Spain for the esteemed University of Granada. Now the place is mostly popular for the wild night-life enjoyment and fun. As a matter of fact, undoubtedly Granada can be considered the best city for college goers among the three best cities of Spain.
