Tourism in world heritage city Cordoba, Spain |
Situated along the banks of the Rio Guadalquivir, Cordoba, is a wonderful city in Andalucia, Southern Spain and is the capital of the province of Cordoba. The city had been founded by the Romans in 169 B.C but subsequent conquest by the Arab moors made it the capital of the Islamic Spain. At its prime, the city of Cordoba was one of the most powerful and influential capitals of Europe. In 929 AD the city became independent from Baghdad and formed its own kingdom. The present moderately sized city of Cordoba belies the past grandeur that the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba once had. It was a time when people of the most different culture, Jews, Muslims and Christians inhabited the city peacefully.
The city of Cordoba has been divided into two by an uninterrupted Arabian Wall. At one side of the city lie the straight and broad roads of the 20th century and in the other side lies the narrow alleys, reminiscent of the bygone eras. The best way to enter the world heritage city of Cordoba is to cross the bridge on the river Guadalquivir and enter the city through the Puerta De Almodovar. Tourism in world heritage city of Cordoba, Spain, thus offers a typical old world charm to its tourists, which one can hardly ignore.
